For the launch I of the Huawei P20 Lite I was tasked with creating a fully textured usable 3D model from the high-poly triangulated CAD file. Nice clean quad topology was required to enable perfect reflections in all lighting conditions. I modelled the phone from scratch using hard-surface subdivision techniques. I built the textures and rendered the phone in Octane. There were some interesting shading challenges here, such as the lenticular pattern on the back of the blue colourway. For this I recreated the pattern in Illustrator and from that generated a normal map. With the glass over the top it created the desired effect.
